High On Stupidity: Benefits of going to Hogwarts instead of regular school: →
- Potions instead of math.
- Coming down every morning to eat breakfast in the Great Hall.
- Your homework is actually fun. Can you imagine studying Cheering Charms and mermaids instead of the French Revolution and the Cold War?
- When you’re bored and don’t know what to do, you have a common room to go to.
- The library is incredible.
- Playing/watching Quidditch when it’s nice out.
- Actual school spirit. Seriously, doesn’t anybody have that anymore?
- Being able to curse people you dislike. Take a minute to think about how convenient that would be.
- Visits to Hogsmeade. Butterbeer, anyone?
- Nothing’s black and white-there’s always so much more to learn.
- Their parties would be the best.
- Holidays at Hogwarts: Halloween is 10x more exciting when there are actual ghosts roaming the castle.
- When you’re lonely, knowing you have friends in your house no matter what.
While these are some nice benefits, I just wanted to point out that you’re looking at it with rosy glasses.
The homework might consist of cheering charms and mermaids occasionally, but you have to take into account other “boring” things, like studying the goblin wars and the properties of specific potions ingredients and researching why a specific flick of the wand produces a different effect to a casting than another swish. Not to mention being assigned ESSAYS for every assignment rather than having multiple choice questions and answers like in most muggle schools.
Yes, you do have the common room. But you don’t have the internet.
The library would seem incredible to some people, but others after a while would probably grow intimidated by it because it’s there for schoolwork, not leisure.
Being able to curse people would be nice, but at Hogwarts there are serious repercussions to that. If you’ll recall the vast array of detentions HP and Co. had to go through? I’m sure the professors have devised some rather creative ways to discourage the use of cursing or hexing your classmates.
I suspect that for muggleborns, ghosts would be interesting and a new experience for the first few years, but after that you’d probably grow accustomed to them. Although I must admit, the holiday feasts sound absolutely delicious.
